Planning a visit to the Lake District?

Well, you’re in for a treat.

With vast lakes and high peaks, the Lake District is home to some of the UK’s best scenery.

But if you want to make your holiday extra special, make sure you book a stay in one of the 35 most beautiful Airbnbs in the Lake District.

From cosy cabins and shepherds huts to beachfront chalets and geodomes, you’re bound to find something you love on this list of the best Airbnbs in the Lake District.

1. Kendal Shepherd’s Hut

Price per night: From £89 for 2 people

Location: Kendal, Cumbria

Say hello to one of the most beautiful shepherd’s huts in the Lake District.

Waking up inside the shepherd’s hut each winter morning to the frosty, sparkly fields was one of the most magical things I’ve ever experienced.

I’ll let the picture speak for itself but this really is one hell of a stay!

There was even a bottle of champers and a birthday card awaiting my arrival.

What guests say: “Such a cute and cosy place to stay. Couldn’t have wished for anything more. The hut was cleaned to a very high standard and made up to be very welcoming. Lovely personal touches with the basket for breakfast. Homemade bread and bottles of fresh milk. The views from the front window are also spectacular of a morning when the sun is coming up.”

2. Cute Micro Home

Price per night: From £85 for 2 people

Location: Windermere, Cumbria

If you want to stay in a Lake District Airbnb with beautiful decor, you’ll find just that in this cute micro home.

Inspired by Scandinavian living spaces, they’ve packed a lot into a small space, without it feeling cluttered.

Inside this lovingly decorated wood-panelled cabin you’ll find a king-size bed, ambient fire, mini-fridge, coffee station, entertainment systems, and en suite bathroom.

A short stroll from Windermere’s lakes, it’s also a great base from which to explore some of the Lake District’s best scenery.

What guests say: “The Scandi hut was absolutely beautiful. So many little details that made it extra lovely, like the fairy lights above the shower, the Phillips hue and fire lights that we could change, and Netflix on the television that we could use. Alison was really friendly and came to make sure we were in and comfortable after we arrived, and was very communicative both before and during our stay.”

3. Romantic Hideaway

Price per night: From £150 for 2 people

Location: Coniston, Cumbria

Another hideaway with a cosy mezzanine sleeping area, this cabin is a romantic little nest for two.

Situated on the side of the mountain with amazing hikes right on your doorstep, the wooden cabin sits in seven-acres of glorious woodland, field and orchard.

So whether you explore further afield or just cosy up in the cabin admiring the scenery from the sofa, beautiful views are in abundance here.

The cabin is also fitted with lots of modern amenities including a Bose speaker and a Nespresso coffee machine.

However, my favourite thing about this cabin is how eco-friendly it is with solar power and natural materials used throughout!

What guests say: “This place is magical. So private and secluded yet just a 5-minute walk to a good pub and the perfect base to explore the mountains without even having to get back in your car. We found the accommodation sparkling clean with lots of thoughtful touches. Loved curling up next to the wood burner in the evenings after a long walk with some lovely views out of the doors.”

4. Cosy Log Cabin

Location: Rydal, Cumbria

Situated up a quiet hill on the ornate grounds of Rydal Hall with expansive views and waterfalls within earshot, this cosy log cabin is ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in nature.

The cabin may be slightly back-to-basics but it still comes complete with a cosy double bed, kitchen with a two-hob gas cooker, and a wood-burning stove with integral oven for roasting meals.

Basically everything you could need from your off-grid escape!

What guests say: “The best holiday we have been on! Stunning spot, near many walks and waterfalls. Plenty of hikes and magnificent views. Toilets and showers were warm and super clean. We stayed in a tiny cabin that was clean, had everything we needed, an unlimited amount of wood. So peaceful at night to sit under the stars in front of the fire. Magical place. You will not want to come home!”

Easily one of the most unique Airbnbs in the Lake District, very few people can say they’ve slept in an airstream!

This iconic 1957 American airstream is situated in the beautiful grounds of an 18th Century residence, transporting you from the fields of the Lake District to the United States.

Inside, the airstream benefits from a cosy double bed, toilet, shower and cosy seating area.

But you won’t want to stay inside when you have wooden decking out front to enjoy a BBQ or read a book!

What guests say: “Stylish, cosy airstream in a perfect location for visiting the Lakes. The airstream design was really well thought out with cute additional touches and sparkling clean, a lot more spacious than you’d think with a large dining area and a comfortable bed.”

Price per night: From £161 for 4 people

Location: Silecroft, Cumbria

I think this might just be one of the most picturesque hot tubs I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

I mean, what better place to enjoy the sunset from?

Watch the sun melt into the Irish Sea in a blaze of orange glory while sipping wine on the deck, soaking in the tub or taking a long walk along the beach.

The starry night skies are something special too! Inside, the story is much the same.

The beautifully designed off-grid wooden cabin will make you feel far from civilisation.

Yep, it’s that good.

What guests say: “This apartment is undoubtedly the nicest apartment I’ve stayed in. The interior is so tastefully decorated with high-end furniture. It’s spacious, airy and immaculately clean. The bathroom had beautiful little touches like gorgeous products to use and the towels were lovely, thick and of great quality, the shower was fantastic with great power.”

This Scandinavian lodge is something seriously special.

Chuck on the Smart TV with Netflix and cosy up by the wood burner on one of the sofas.

What guests say: “HerdyView was a delightful place to stay. Possibly my favourite Airbnb that we have stayed in. There were lovely little homely touches, the place was really clean and the beds were super comfy. The lodge is situated in a really quiet and scenic area where you can see wildlife in the day and lots of stars at night. There is a log fire which we loved in an evening after exploring the lakes and my little boy loved to ‘help’ me light it and then drink hot chocolate watching it.”

And with walks and bridleways right on your doorstep, you won’t know whether to spend more time inside or out.

What guests say: “Such a beautiful cottage in a terrific location. Every room is incredibly stylish and there are so many terrific touches, whether it’s a well-stocked kitchen or gorgeous bathrooms. It’s a simple cabin but it does benefit from Wi-Fi, a fridge, microwave, kettle and Nespresso machine.

Oh and of course, a cosy double bed.

The traditional stone terraced cottage is as cute as its name.

Sympathetically renovated in 2019, it’s oh-so-modern and well-equipped with everything you’d expect from one of the best Airbnbs in the Lake District, while still retaining its character.

See how many traditional features you can spot!

The luxurious family bathroom with a rolltop bath and waterfall shower is a real treat.

What guests say: “A truly lovely property. The beds are exceptionally comfortable with high-quality pillows, bedding and duvets. The house was immaculate and decorated beautifully. There are en suites in two of the rooms and the showers run off the boiler so are instantly hot and powerful. The welcome pack was brilliant, the ease of the log burner very comforting and the abundance of kitchen utensils allowed us to cook up a storm without once struggling for something.”

Contemporary meets cosy in this gorgeous lodge.

Comfortably furnished to a high standard, you’ll find a spacious open-plan living and dining area and two twin bedrooms inside.

Equipped with a patio table and chairs, it’s the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the abundant wildlife.

What guests say: “To our delight, we saw several red squirrels! The accommodation was spotlessly clean! We planned to eat mostly in the log cabin and this was probably the best self-catered accommodation we have ever stayed in. We were slightly disappointed we only discovered the board games before we left but have already planned which ones we want to play on our next trip.”

19. The Weathercock Cottage

However, the best thing about the cottage is the stunning panoramic views and the private beachfront terrace you can enjoy them from.

What guests say: “Piers’ cottage in Ravenglass is on another level to what you normally expect. A stunning, quiet and special place that is truly unique. It’s obvious that Piers has a really keen eye for matching the decor to the landscape and making the most out of a wonderful place and the spacious rooms. Outside, there’s lots of entertaining space for eating dinner alfresco and watching the sun go down.

With a large enclosed lawned garden area and two sandstone terraces to choose from, you can really spread yourselves out.

What guests say: “This was about our 13th Airbnb stay. Without question one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. The place does share a wall on either end with other Airbnb townhouses, but I never heard or saw the neighbours. Inside, the place was perfectly clean, everything worked flawlessly, and the appliances in the kitchen were top of the line.”

24. The Roundhouse

And if you want to make your stay that tad bit more special, make sure you book use of their wood-fired outdoor hot tub up in the woods in advance!

What guests say: “Myself and my best friend had a wonderful stay in the Shepherds Hut. We were pleasantly surprised by the space inside and the amazing new and modern shower and toilet facilities. We had all the supplies we needed to have a comfortable stay yet felt we were still having the ‘rural’ experience. Alan and Cheryl were excellent communicators and made us feel very at home.”

One of my favourite features of the house is The Drawing Room bay which looks like it would make the perfect reading nook.

The freestanding copper bath is another highlight!

What guests say: “This was quite simply the most breathtaking place we’ve ever stayed in! Wonderful location right next to Windermere. Secluded but also close enough to Ambleside. The house itself was magnificent. This is the place for a serious wow factor. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. The highest ceilings and roomiest bedrooms. The pictures are great but really don’t do the size of the place justice or the quality of the interiors.”
