Come rain or shine, there’s plenty to do in Brum.

It’s a huge city, so it should come as no surprise that it’s jam-packed full of fun things to do.

If you’re looking for the best indoor activities in Birmingham, then you’ve come to the right place, because that’s exactly what this list is here for!

There’s loads to see and learn at this museum, and it’s perfect if you’re looking for something to do which is educational yet still great fun. 

11. Roxy Ball Room

The Chocolate Quarter is the only chocolatier outside of London to offer private experiences like these, so make sure not to miss this one.

Combining mind-blowing technology with a physical sensation overload, this is virtual reality like you’ve never seen it before.

Their first experience was Chernobyl: Hidden Depths, and it received an amazing reaction from guests.

Since then, they have continued to fascinate visitors with their incredible tech, and it’s well worth a visit.

Get yourself down there and prepare to have your mind blown. 

16. The Snowdome

The Snowdome is one of the best places to spend a day indoors in the West Midlands.

It’s in Tamworth, so it isn’t technically in Birmingham, but it’s well worth the trip over there.

From skiing to ice skating to sledging, there are all sorts of winter activities for you to partake in here.

They also host birthday parties, which are great fun for kids.

It’s a fun place to go to do something a bit different, and who doesn’t love to fling themselves down slopes, even if it’s indoors and not in France? 

 

17. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is one of my favourite museums in the world.

I spent a lot of time there growing up, and my personal favourite exhibition is their Ancient Egypt one.

It’s fascinating to take a step back in time through the incredible displays.

They also have different special exhibitions throughout the year, so make sure to check out their events calendar.

Don’t miss their gorgeous tea room while you’re here – it’s a real stunner! 

18. Houdini’s Escape

Escape rooms are one of the most fun things to do in Birmingham, and Houdini’s Escape is no exception.

It has three incredible immersive escape room experiences, all of which are as good as the last.

Escape rooms have shot up in popularity in recent years, and people across the country are doing them for everything from birthday parties to team building activities and beyond.

Here at Houdini’s, you can become a student in a magic school, find cursed treasure in an ancient temple, or escape from the most famous ship in the world as it sinks.

19. Ghetto Golf

Ghetto Golf are kings on the mini-golf scene, and it’s not hard to see why they’re so well-loved.

This funky venue offers you a seriously twisted eighteen-hole mini-golf course which will have you pushing your skills to the limit!

When you’re done golfing, go and give their street food from Locked & Loaded a try – it’s delicious!

How about some lasagne bites and some Holy Trinity fries?

That sounds right up my street, especially after an exhausting round of golf!

20. Loaf

Their bread classes are mega popular and will teach you how to make some of the best bread in the business.

Aside from that, they have classes on everything from ramen to macaroons, seafood to dumplings, so if you want to brush up on your cookery skills, then this is the place for you.

Their classes make for a great gift for a loved one too.

What a lovely thing to do together! 

21. Escape Hunt

Escape Hunt is another of Birmingham’s best escape rooms.

It seems the people of Birmingham really love to spend their time escaping, doesn’t it?

Good thing there’s plenty of choices available!

There are also virtual reality experiences on offer at Escape Hunt, as well as outdoor games when the weather is half decent.

If you want to take the escape experience home with you, then you’re in luck, because they offer at-home experience kits so you can turn up the tension with the family at home.

That’s a novel way to spend Christmas! 

22. Planet Ice Solihull

Planet Ice Solihull is a fantastic ice rink a short distance from Birmingham’s city centre.

It’s situated in Solihull, but it’s worth making the effort to travel there.

Ice skating provides fun for all the family and is a great way to burn off some energy on a rainy day.

It’s a real winner of an activity, because who ever heard someone say they didn’t like ice skating?

Strap your skates on and take to the ice.

23. Eastside Projects

Eastside Projects is an artist-run space in Digbeth.

It’s imagined and organised by artists, and here you’ll find an array of galleries and studios showcasing the best of local talent and beyond.

Through its exhibitions, Eastside Projects hopes to propose ways in which art may be useful to society, which is an incredibly important message in my opinion.

Without art, the world would be incredibly bland, so I have a lot of respect for anyone trying to put it out into the world!

Head down there and support this amazing endeavour. 

It’s one of the best things to do in Digbeth, that’s for sure!

24. Clue HQ

Clue HQ – another escape room makes the list of the best indoor activities in Birmingham!

I can’t say I’m surprised at this point, can you?

After all, it’s clear that we love an escape room, and the ones at Clue HQ are more than good enough to rival any of the others.

With nine immersive escape room games to choose from, their selection is pretty incredible, too, so I’d give this one a go when you get a chance to.

The Hellevator escape room sounds particularly exciting! 

25. Mockingbird Cinema

On a cold and rainy day, there are few better things to do than to go to the cinema.

Mockingbird Cinema is one of Birmingham’s very best, and we’re very proud to have it.

This independent cinema is housed in a restored Victorian factory, and it shows the best of arty and mainstream films, meaning there’s something for every kind of cinema-goer here.

The food here is also to die for and let’s be honest, the food is half the joy of going to the cinema, so it’s always a relief when it’s good! 

26. Matrix VR

Matrix VR is another great virtual reality spot in town.

The virtual reality arcade is an incredible experience, with a whole bunch of games on offer for you to choose from.

If you’re not in the mood to play but you still want to get the VR experience, then fear not, because they also have a selection of short movies for you to enjoy.

27. National Sea Life Centre

28. Ikon Gallery

Ikon Gallery is an internationally acclaimed contemporary art gallery located right in the heart of Birmingham’s Brindleyplace.

Entry to the gallery is free, and you’ll want to come back time and time again after your first visit.

The magnificent neo-gothic school building in which it is housed is just the beginning of the wonders you’ll see here at Ikon.

29. The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

The Jewellery Quarter is an absolute gem of a place.

It’s one of our loveliest areas, and The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter tells you all about it.

If you’ve ever wandered around the Jewellery Quarter and been fascinated by it, then this is the museum for you.

It’s built around a perfectly preserved jewellery workshop, and it offers a unique glimpse into what working life in Birmingham was once like.

The museum also contains two self-led galleries which are worth popping into if you want to learn about the Jewellery Quarter’s rich history or view jewellery made from natural materials from around the world.

Check them out – they’re fascinating! 

30. Flight Club

It’s a fun experience bar that brings darts out of the pubs and to the masses through a new, pimped up way of playing.

31. The Repertory Theatre

The Repertory Theatre is one of our most fantastic theatres.

It has long been an important part of Birmingham’s cultural scene, and that doesn’t look set to change any time soon.

Many an evening has been spent enjoying their fantastic shows, and the people of Birmingham love The Rep for it.

I promise you, few theatres do it better than The Rep does.

A shopaholic’s paradise, The Bullring is an absolute landmark.

From the iconic Selfridges building to the huge bull at the front of the shopping centre, few people would be able to say they hadn’t heard of The Bullring.

It’s got all the shops you could ever dream of spread out across its three floors, and there are plenty of eateries to stop off at for a quick energy boost, too.

Teamworks Karting is the place to be if you’ve ever dreamt of being the next Formula 1 champion.

I’m not saying they’re going to get you on Formula 1, but this is a pretty close second, I’d say.

The electric karts whizz around an expansive indoor track which is spread over two floors.

It’s a cool experience, but make sure to keep your mind on your driving.

You wouldn’t want to crash, after all!

They also have laser tag arenas if you want to add even more excitement to your trip, so check those out too. 

35. The Alexandra Theatre

The Alexandra Theatre is a brilliant place to go to catch the latest musical that’s in town.

It’s probably our most beloved theatre, and it has been a stalwart of Birmingham since it was built back in 1901.

The Alex has hosted some of the world’s best musicals on its stage, and it intends to continue to do so for many years to come.

Theatre is such an important part of Birmingham’s cultural scene, so make sure to go and support them by catching a show!
