Czeching in at Prague’s Coolest Hostel
This February Gaz and I visited Berlin and Prague. During our travels we stayed in a hostel in Prague and a hotel in Berlin. Unsurprisingly we were slightly less excited for the hostel, even though we knew we were staying in a private room instead of shared dorms. However, when we arrived at Mosaic House we were absolutely gobsmacked. We paid such a small price for THIS!? Our Superior Double Room with Terrace cost only £19 a night each!
We soon learnt that Mosaic House isn’t your typical basic hostel: it offers everything from shared dorms and private rooms to luxury apartments. The hostel is a self-acclaimed “design and music hotel” and it certainly lived up to its tagline. Everyone was really chilled out, young and friendly, and you could tell that music was at the core of their vision. Before staying here I was a little worried due to complaints of noise on Trip Advisor because the ground floor of the hostel is a night club/bar. However, although I cannot vouch for other floors as we were on the top floor, I didn’t hear even the slightest bit of noise. In fact Michelberger Hotel in Berlin was a lot noisier.
As well as being really freakin’ cool, Mosaic House is Prague’s greenest and most sustainable accommodation. Or maybe even within the whole Czech Republic. They are the first hotel/hostel in the entire country to utilise 100% renewable source energy. Mosaic House has implemented both passive and active methods to gather and preserve energy, including energy saving lights and machines, insulated windows, solar panels on the roof, and heat recuperation from cooling and their waste water grey water system. So if environmental sustainability is something that is important to you, you know where to go… These guys do it well 😉
Yeah we could have just booked your standard double room, but by only saving a few quid why would we settle for the ordinary? And I’m so glad we didn’t because our walk-out terrace overlooking the city was just stunning. The views were faultless, especially on a crisp winter’s morning. It would be the perfect place to have a morning cuppa and brekky in the morning, and drinks in the evening. The superior double also offered a little more room to settle in and more cosy surprises.
