Somerset Shepherds Huts: 25 Dreamy Huts to Stay In [2024]

by

Somerset is a great county to visit in its own right but what makes a trip to Somerset even better?

Staying in a shepherds hut, of course!

And luckily for all of us, this county seriously excels when it comes to shepherds huts.

It’s not only home to a whopping 29 shepherds huts but they’re all seriously beautiful too.

So from shepherds huts with hot tubs to shepherds huts with beautiful views, here are 26 dreamy Somerset shepherds huts you need to stay in!

1. The Shepherds Hut Retreat

hot-tub-overlooking-lake-at-sunset-at-the-shepherds-hut-retreat-glamping-somerset

Price per night: From £136.50 for 2 people

Location: Roundham, Crewkerne

Okay, so the Shepherds Hut Retreat might just win the award for my favourite place to go glamping in Somerset.

I mean, the hot tub alone is enough to warrant a visit.

Could you think of a more idyllic setting to go for a dip?

From the modern and beautifully designed kitted out interiors to the private woodland gardens with fire bowls to the lakeside hot tub and sauna, there are endless things to love about this place.

I promise it’s impossible to not fall head over heels for this retreat – and especially Shepherds Parlour!

What guests say: “Perfect luxury inside, with every attention to detail. Sumptuous bedding and throws, so cosy, everything I needed (and more!) in the kitchen, and the bathroom was such a treat to use, fantastic shower, and really lovely products! I could open the door and look at the lake and hear the wildlife. The bed was so comfortable, the TV and radio were easy to use, and of course the treat of the gin bar.”

2. Old Oaks Shepherds Huts

Price per night: From £69 for 2 people

Location: Glastonbury

If the photo above doesn’t immediately have you rushing to book a stay at Old Oaks Shepherds Huts then I’m not sure what will.

At Old Oaks, there are a handful of huts to choose from.

And some even come complete with their very own wood-fired hot tub!

Each hand-built hut is finished to an amazing standard and is filled with all the creature comforts you’d expect from modern self-contained holiday accommodation, including a fully equipped kitchen and a luxurious en-suite bathroom.

If their TripAdvisor reviews are anything to go by, your stay will be nothing short of perfection!

All that’s left to do now is book a stay, right?

What guests say: “We couldn’t have picked anywhere better to stay, to be honest! All the staff are super friendly and helpful and all go above and beyond to make sure their guests have the best experience. The whole park and all its facilities are brilliantly well kept. We stayed in a shepherds hut with a hot tub it also had a fire pit, lots of outdoor seating and it came fully equipped with everything we needed!”

3. Tilbury Farm Shepherds Huts

Price per night: From £122 for 2 people

Location: West Bagborough, Taunton

Great views? Check.

Wood-fired hot tub? Check.

Luxurious interiors? One big check!

There’s nothing not to love about Tilbury Farm Shepherds Huts; however, the highlight is obviously those views!

I mean, I personally couldn’t think of anything much more idyllic than sitting back outdoors watching the sunset with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.

And if the weather’s not on your side, the hut is lovingly stocked with a multitude of games, books, music, Wi-Fi and entertainment to keep you busy on even the rainiest of the days!

What guests say: “Everything was amazing. The setting is resplendent. It’s like sitting in heaven watching the world below you. The hut is also amazing. To call it a hut is a disservice the double brace hut layout is fantastic. We’ve stayed in shepherd huts before and they were lovely but this gives so much space it’s like a little hotel suite. The food hamper was also fabulous – lots of local produce, all of it lovely.”

4. Tor View Shepherds Huts

len-shepherds-hut-at-tor-view-shepherds-huts-at-sunset

Price per night: From £125 for 2 people

Location: Masbury, nr Wells

Tor View Shepherds Huts serves up everything you’d want from a Somerset shepherds hut: a private hot tub, views of Glastonbury Tor, and the cosiest of interiors.

There are two shepherds huts to choose from, depending on what you want from your glamping trip.

The first has mains electric, central heating, and Wi-Fi, and the second doesn’t.

Choose accordingly based on whether you want to have a digital detox away from technology or whether you still want to post that all-important Instagram pic.

I’d personally opt for the latter as I love an off-grid escape, but the choice is all yours!

What guests say: “We have just had the most amazing three-night stay in Ted’s Hut. Everything was thought of, even fresh milk in the fridge when we arrived. Wonderful hot tub, pizza oven and fantastic fire pit oven which we cooked on every evening. Waking up to the view in the morning of Glastonbury Tor is something we will never forget.”

5. Dimpsey Shepherds Huts

path-leading-towards-shepherd-hut-lit-up-in-evening-at-dimpsey-glamping-somerset-glamping

Price per night: From £145 for 2 people

Location: Chard, Somerset

Set on a small 30-acre historic farm on the Blackdown Hills, Dimpsey Shepherds Huts are simply wonderful.

Guaranteeing a private, intimate stay, each hut sits in its own field with stunning views.

(These amazing views are, of course, best enjoyed from the decadence of your outdoor wood-fired hot tub!)

However, what makes Dimpsey so special is all the extra touches they add to make your stay a good one.

From little flasks and enamel mugs to a vintage picnic basket filled with sandwiches and treats, any walks you embark on will definitely be memorable!

What guests say: “Emma was an excellent host, greeting us even when we were late to arrive having baked us a cake and stocked the fridge with bacon and eggs ready for breakfast. Every detail has been thought about, with goodies to find in every corner such as board games for a rainy afternoon and waterproof bag with a thermos you can take on a picnic.”

6. The Rumple Hut

shepherds-hut-with-wood-fired-hot-tub

Price per night: From £122 for 2 people

Location: Wingfield, nr Bradford-on-Avon

Yet another Somerset shepherds hut with a wood-fired hot tub?

Somerset does like to spoil us, doesn’t it?

The Rumple Hut is so comforting that it’s basically a big hug in the form of a shepherds hut.

From the ridiculously cosy king-size bed to the wood-burning stove at the heart of the hut, you’re guaranteed to return to ‘normal’ life feeling completely refreshed after a stay here.

So much so that I can promise you’ll be rushing to book another stay before you’ve even left!

What guests say: “If I could put a higher rating than 5 stars I would! The Rumple Hut was absolutely gorgeous, incredibly clean, and Anthony went out of his way to help make it a special few days for my partner’s 40th. Such a lovely getaway in a fab location, I can’t recommend it enough, you won’t be disappointed!”

7. Esme’s Escape Shepherds Hut

Price per night: From £100 for 2 people

Location: Haselbury Plucknett, Crewkerne

Esme’s Escape Shepherds Hut is multi-award-winning for a reason.

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Haselbury Plucknett, the hut is perfectly situated in South Somerset to enjoy some of the UK’s best scenery!

There’s so much to love about this place.

An outdoor seating area with a log-fired hot tub, locally sourced breakfast ingredients, and a flushing loo and an electric shower.

Need I say more?

What guests say: “They have thought of EVERYTHING… down to the smallest of details and special touches. The homemade Christmas cake was delicious and the homemade sloe gin was perfect with the complimentary Prosecco. Breakfast was simply delicious and we had more than enough for our two mornings.”

8. Secret Valley Shepherds Huts

secret-valley-shepherds-hut-somerset-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £125 for 2 people

Location: Goathurst, nr Bridgwater

Once you’ve visited Secret Valley Shepherds Huts you won’t be able to decide between keeping it your own special ‘secret’ or shouting about it from the rooftops.

Well, today I’m here to shout about it as loud as possible because these huts are seriously special!

Tucked away in a peaceful private spot on the edge of the vineyard, their two beautiful shepherds huts even have private Scandinavian wood-fired hot tubs.

Each hut also has its own picnic table, BBQ and fire pit so you can dine alfresco as the sun goes down, then toast marshmallows while stargazing.

If this sounds as much of a dream to you as it does to me then book in ASAP!

What guests say: “What an absolute gem of a place. The whole site was spotless, situated in beautiful surroundings, and Jan was on hand for anything we wanted. If you’re looking for somewhere to unwind then this is the place. Idyllic is the only word to describe Secret Valley. The shepherd’s hut was perfect. Located on its own next to the vineyard, but close to all amenities, we had all the privacy we needed.”

9. The Nancy Blackett Shepherds Hut

Price per night: From £115 for 2 people

Location: Henley, Langport

Your surroundings won’t get much more idyllic than the ones you’ll find at The Nancy Blackett Shepherds Hut.

I mean not many people can say that they’ve woken up on their very own island before!

Yep, that’s right, this shepherds hut is perched on its own tiny island, completely surrounded by nature with a little wooden bridge to the mainland.

There’s so much to do here that I wouldn’t even know where to begin!

Whether you spend your time snoozing in the hammock, boating around the lake, cooking on the campfire or unwinding in the wood-fired hot tub, you’re guaranteed a good time here.

What guests say: “Beautiful, peaceful, secluded and private place for two. Perfect for relaxing and wildlife spotting. We were planning on doing some walks but it was all so perfect that we chose to stay and enjoy the lovely setting. Enjoyed rowing on the lake, birdwatching, cooking on the fire pit and just relaxing in our own little private nature reserve.”

10. Stocklinch Shepherds Hut

If beautiful surroundings are what you’re after then beautiful surroundings are exactly what you’ll get at Stocklinch Shepherds Hut.

With uninterrupted, panoramic views, and amazing sunsets and starry skies, this tranquil corner of Somerset will have you feeling revitalised in no time.

There are lots of places to enjoy the outdoors here, including a wood-fired hot tub, a BBQ and a fire pit.

And luckily, the inside of the hut is just as wonderful!

The super comfy raised double bed with feather duvet, pillows and cotton bedding mean that a good night’s sleep is practically guaranteed.

What guests say: “Just back from a fantastic weekend at Stocklinch Shepherds Hut. Fiona’s attention to detail is fab and the little extras such as a welcome postcard with chocs and prosecco, biscuits, hot choc with marshmallows, lovely toiletries… even down to dressing gowns, woolly hats, slippers and crocs really make for a lovely stay!”

11. Woodspring Farm Shepherds Hut

Price per night: From £75 for 2 people

Location: Kewstoke, Weston Super Mare

If you want to be surrounded by some of Somerset’s best countryside, then you’ll love Woodspring Farm Shepherds Hut.

Not only are the views amazing but you’ll also drop off to sleep while literally counting sheep (and goats and pigs) wandering past the hut.

Inside, the hut is toasty and charming too.

However, the highlight of any stay here is the huge organic and locally sourced breakfasts that are brought to your hut at a time of your choosing.

Anticipate boiled eggs, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, yoghurts, cereal, butter, jam, coffee, and teas in abundance!

What guests say: “A very relaxing getaway for a few days, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Out in the countryside but close to the beach. Amazing weather, and fantastic, hospitable hosts. Lovely shepherds hut very well-equipped. Adorable animals. Fantastic views.”

12. Frogmary Green Farm Shepherds Huts

frogmary-green-farm-shepherds-huts-somerset-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £100 for 2 people

Location: South Petherton, nr Yeovil

Frogmary Green Farm Shepherds Huts is pretty heavenly, if you ask me.

Firstly, you’ve got amazing scenery right on your doorstep – I mean, this is a farm, after all!

Secondly, the shepherds huts’ interiors take country chic to a whole new level.

With traditional sheep’s wool-lined walls and underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty, the huts are ridiculously snug.

They also benefit from some beautiful furniture that I just can’t get enough of.

And best of all, both of the huts have an outside decking area, where you can soak up some of the best sunsets that Somerset has to offer!

What guests say: “The hut is beautiful, comfy and very private. Hamper goodies left around the kitchen was an amazing touch. Unfortunately, it rained the whole time we were there and still had an amazing time. Catherine is really great, helpful, and attentive.”

13. Ruby the Shepherds Hut

black-and-white-ruby-the-shepherds-hut-on-decking-in-garden-of-taggart-house

Price per night: From £100 for 2 people

Location: Walton-in-Gordano, Clevedon

Set on the edge of a babbling brook, Ruby the Shepherds Hut is a little slice of paradise.

When you arrive, you won’t know what to do first: start digging into the homemade shortbread awaiting your arrival, or start exploring every little nook and cranny of the hut.

Regardless of what you choose to do first, you’ll soon be watching the sunset and the stars light up the night sky from your private deck by the fire pit.

Inside, the double bed-cum-dining table, luxury ensuite, fluffy towels, and induction hobs will make you feel right at home straight away.

What guests say: “Such a beautiful location in a secluded part of the extensive garden, surrounded by trees and a babbling stream, it was really private and peaceful. The hut was extremely cosy, with everything we needed and lots of attention to detail. Amazing personal touches like homemade shortbread and granola, and the owner’s own artwork.”

14. Walnut Tree Shepherds Huts

hobbit-hut-in-field-at-walnut-tree-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £70 for 2 people

Location: Regil, nr Chew Magna

Lord of the Rings fans gather around because Walnut Tree Shepherds Huts‘ huts are named Gandalf and Hobbit!

The huts are simple but staying here isn’t necessarily about the huts themselves.

It’s more about embracing nature and switching off from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Set at either end of a five acre farm, open the stable doors to views across open Somerset countryside.

Choose Gandalf if you’re staying for a little longer and want a little more space to spread yourselves across, and choose the aptly named Hobbit if you’re after a smaller, more romantic bolthole.

Both huts benefit from a double bed, bedding, a log burner, sink, small table, and cooking utensils.

Hot and powerful showers, and loos, are just a stone’s throw away.

What guests say: “We just loved it. It was cute, roomy, comfy and very peaceful. We had a campfire in the evening and there was even a log burner in the hut. There’s a beautiful view from the hut and its a pleasure just to chill and sit outside. We will definitely be back again.”

15. Lady’s Well Shepherds Hut

walnut-barn-holiday-cottages-shepherds-hut-somerset-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £56 for 2 people

Location: Hutton, nr Weston-super-Mare

Lady’s Well Shepherds Hut has to be one of my all-time favourite Somerset shepherds huts for its surroundings alone!

Set on the edge of a natural spring-fed pond with a private rowing boat, it doesn’t get much more romantic than this.

Well, until you throw a hot tub, sun loungers and a fire pit into the mix too!

This might just be heaven on earth – and luckily for you, the inside of the hut is just as dreamy.

The shepherds hut comprises an open-plan living room with a kitchen and dining area, a king-size bedroom, and an en-suite shower room.

Oh, and of course, large windows through which to soak up the amazing views.

I recently stayed here and couldn’t recommend it enough – you can read my Lady’s Well Shepherds Hut review here.

What guests say: “I have to say, this is the most outstanding place I have stayed. To me, it was a little piece of heaven. Wished I could of stayed for a week. The hosts are very friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. Will be going back.”

16. Apple Blossom Hut

Price per night: From £70 for 2 people

Location: Lottisham, nr Glastonbury

Nestled in a cosy corner of a traditional Glastonbury farm, Apple Blossom Hut is one of the best Somerset shepherds huts for a solo traveller or a couple.

Although simple, the hut packs a lot into a small space, including a super comfy double bed, electric heater and a kettle for afternoon tea.

Nearby you’ll find kitchen facilities and a bathroom with a hot bath, ready for long relaxing soaks.

A BBQ can also be used by guests, and what’s more, the lovely owners serve tea and cake on your arrival.

Delicious!

What guests say: “Thank you so very much to Anna and Harry, who were the most kind and welcoming hosts throughout my say in their beautiful shepherds hut. I felt more relaxed than I have in a very long time and never wanted to leave. Very comfy bed, accommodation had all that I needed, was surrounded by gorgeous views and next door to the sweetest little donkey.”

17. Quantock Glamping Shepherds Huts

Price per night: From £160 for 2 people

Location: Cockercombe, nr Bishop’s Lydeard

Quantock Glamping Shepherds Huts are easily some of the most luxurious Somerset shepherds huts – and one of my all-time favourites too!

Set at the foot of the Quantocks, these shepherds huts just exude luxury.

Uniquely designed, each hut benefits from a wood-fired hot tub, a double bed with a stargazing window, underfloor heating, a full ensuite bathroom, and a breakfast hamper.

And if you want to make your stay even more romantic (maybe it’s a special occasion?), you can upgrade to the romance package.

This will get you champagne on ice, the fire lit on arrival, free use of their bikes, a breakfast hamper for both mornings, an evening hamper to make your own wood-fired pizza or BBQ, and more!

What guests say: “From start to finish, our stay was just perfect. What a location – amazing! Laura and Chris have thought of absolutely everything in the hut, and outdoors. The radio was already playing in the hut when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. Our two-night stay was definitely relaxing, and an escape from everyday life. We had breakfast hamper, pizza hamper and bbq hamper… all of the food was fresh and super yummy!”

18. Old Oak Farm Shepherds Hut

counting-sheep-shepherds-hut-at-old-oak-farm

Price per night: From £130 for 2 people

The beautifully appointed, bespoke Old Oak Farm Shepherds Hut absolutely deserves its place on this list of the best Somerset shepherds huts.

Nestled in a corner of a seven-acre farm, the shepherds hut has its own private decked area and garden, with a fire pit that you can cook on.

Top tip: pick your own herbs from the garden for an authentic camping experience!

However, if you’re after a bit more luxury, don’t you worry because the inside of the shepherds hut exudes it through and through.

(I especially love the en-suite bathroom!)

And to make your stay even more exciting, a little hamper of goodies awaits your arrival.

Bottoms up!

What guests say: “A fab location, easy to find, and wonderful host! Rebecca and her husband are around if you need them. But equally give you your space. The shepherds hut was a delight – everything you need even the extra thoughtful touches to make the start of your stay an enjoyable one.”

19. Huts Upon a Hill

wellow-shepherds-hut-at-huts-upon-the-hill-somerset-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £75 for 2 people

Location: Wellow, nr Bath

Huts Upon a Hill has to be one of my favourite Somerset shepherds huts to stay at.

I mean you’ve got great views and a wood-fired hot tub.

Surely that’s the recipe for the perfect shepherds hut?!

With idyllic views for as far as the eye can see, you can enjoy a yummy breakfast in bed while listening to the birds sing.

However, even if the weather’s not on your side you’ll still have a great time here as the hut is completely self-contained.

Lovingly filled with a TV, radio, books, board games, and even Wi-Fi too, you definitely won’t be stuck for things to do.

What guests say: “If you want a peaceful retreat with incredible views then the huts are the place for you. I stayed for three nights and had the most wonderful stay. The hut has everything you need for a relaxing stay so you just need some drinks and food to get started. The views are even better than in the photos and watching a meteor shower from the hot tub on my last night was a real highlight.”

20. Mowbarton Estate Shepherds Hut

mowbarton-estate-shepherds-hut-somerset-shepherds-huts

Price per night: From £62 for 2 people

Location: Mudgley, nr Wells

The cheapest of these Somerset shepherds huts, Mowbarton Estate Shepherds Hut is the perfect option for travellers on a budget.

However, don’t think that because it’s the cheapest you’ll be compromising on quality because if anything, this is one of the most luxurious options on this list.

Combining luxurious comfort with the rural idyll, the hut benefits from a fully equipped kitchen, a modern ensuite bathroom, and seating and a table for four which cunningly converts into a cosy double bed.

But don’t spend all your time inside when your surroundings are just as wonderful!

The meadow is teeming with wildlife, and you’ve also got the beautiful vineyard (and lots of wine!) to enjoy.

What guests say: “This shepherds hut was lovely! Really easy check in and the directions Dorothy had given were really helpful. Such a lovely area – so quiet and beautiful. Lots of little rabbits running around outside! All the little details had been thought of and just a lovely stay in general! Would definitely go again and highly recommend!”

The handcrafted shepherds hut benefits from the dreamiest cabin bed imaginable, alongside a fully equipped and stylish kitchen, a wood-burning stove, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom.

And as if it couldn’t get any better, the hut also has a wood-fired hot tub from which to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Is this the perfect shepherds hut? I think so!

What guests say: “We had a warm and welcoming few days at The Croft. The views are stunning and the breakfast hamper was filling and delicious. Katie and Ted’s attention to detail in the shepherds hut was fantastic, with really nice touches throughout – and both fantastic hosts!”

22. The Masons Arms Shepherds Hut

the-mason-arms-shepherds-hut-somerset-shepherds-huts

Inside the hut, you’ll find your bed, living area, woodburning stove, and en-suite toilet and wash basin.

And if you want to upgrade your stay to a luxury glamping experience, you can pay a little extra to enjoy a delicious breakfast each morning!

Worth it for some delicious pub grub, I say.

What guests say: “It absolutely rained non-stop but it didn’t stop us having fun. The bolthole was adorable and the staff provided everything you could possibly need, including spare dog bowls/blankets, torches, towels, shower gel, logs for kindling, etc. The hut was cleaned every day and the tea/coffee supplies were stocked up. The Masons Arms is a wonderful pub and the food is delicious.”
