Phone number: 0121 236 4455

If you’re feeling cultured and up for a night of high-quality theatre, there’s no better place than the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, situated between the Symphony Hall and Birmingham Library in Centenary Square.

Although Birmingham is brimming with theatres, including The Crescent and The Hippodrome, The REP has a unique charm that sets it apart from other venues!

In addition to productions by the REP’s Company, this exciting theatre also hosts hundreds of external theatre companies throughout the year.

From large productions by renowned companies from the West End to smaller up-and-coming companies, there’s something for everyone.

The REP has played host to some brilliant performers such as Maggie Smith and Sarah Hadland.

Similarly, productions range in genre from comedy to tragedy to horror.

So whatever you’re looking for, you’ll probably find it!

There’s no classier night out than to the theatre, so grab a glass of wine at the bar, or even a meal at the REP’s own restaurant, Marmalade, then sit back and enjoy some exceptional theatre.

Phone number: 0121 622 1718

Known to the locals as ‘Gales’, The Nightingale is one of Birmingham’s oldest and largest LGBT club venues, located in the Gay Village along with lots of other gay bars and nightlife!

Gales is on a different level to other clubs in the area and it hosts some of the best events in Birmingham.

This is largely due to its lively, welcoming atmosphere and its £1 vodka mixers on a Thursday.

With three floors and floor rooms of amazing music, cheerful bar staff and psychedelic wall art, Gales is one of the best club nights out in Brum.

Arguably the best part of the Gales experience is the huge stage on the bottom floor.

Here performers dance and entertain the crowds every night in colourful costumes and incredible makeup.

What’s not to love about great music, a great atmosphere and generally great entertainment?

3. Custard Factory

Situated in the heart of Digbeth in central Birmingham, the Custard Factory is a jewel to explore if you’re ever in the city and fancy an escape from the bustling Bullring!

While there’s plenty to do in the fifteen acres of restored Victorian buildings during the day, the Custard Factory comes to life in the evening, with restaurants, bars and game cafés to explore and enjoy.

Why not treat your tastebuds to a trip to Birdies Bar, an outdoor eatery which serves signature cocktails and delicious street food with a tropical hideaway theme?

From there, you can go along to NQ64, a hub of retro gaming, including the likes of Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders.

NQ64 serves up some childhood nostalgia, alongside drinks to keep you going throughout the night.

Experiential bars like The Floodgate and board game cafés like Chance & Counters should also be added to your Custard Factory bucket list to ensure a fantastic night out.

There are so many things to do in Digbeth that you could easily spend a whole weekend there!

No hole is the same at Ghetto Golf, making this experience different to all others, and definitely a memorable one!

Birmingham is renowned for producing some of the most amazing performers and bands.

Think Duran Duran, Dexys Midnight Runners and Jamelia.

But these musicians had to start out somewhere, and it was on Birmingham’s renowned music scene that they first rose to fame!

Music venues litter the streets of central Birmingham, but it’s venues like The Sunflower Lounge that really stand out.

If you’re looking for a chilled venue, with performances from up-and-coming artists, then this venue is for you.

With good vibes, a great bar and a wide range of genres on offer, there’s no better venue than The Sunflower Lounge for a night of discovering new music.

‘It’s bowling like you’ve never seen it’ are words taken straight from Lane7’s website, and I’ve got to agree!

Located in both the Bullring and The Cube, Lane7 is a bowling alley that will give you a night out to remember.

These boutique venues comprise nine lanes, a bar that serves cocktails and loads of other forms of entertainment once you’ve finished getting those strikes.

Think a UV-lit karaoke booth, arcades, shuffleboard tables and more!

Within this space, there are loads of activities that will entertain you through the night.

Lane 7 offers everything you could want from a night out with friends.

You’ll never be bored as you move from activity to activity, and you’ll always leave wanting more.

You can even exclusively hire lanes or choose one of their package deals, perfect for hen parties or nights out with colleagues.

One of the best rooftop bars in Birmingham, The Mill has got to be one of Birmingham’s best nights out.

The Mill has something for all party-goers meaning no event is ever the same!

Past events include ‘DnB Brunch’, ‘Back To The 90s’ and ‘An Orchestral Rendition of Dr Dre’s 2001’.

Perhaps the most famous event at The Mill is the MADE Festival After-Party which hosts hundreds of people after one of Birmingham’s biggest festivals.

Following the unfortunate closure of The Rainbow Venues, the opening of The Mill marked a new and exciting time for Birmingham’s outdoor clubbing scene.

It’s definitely not one to miss!

DropShot in Digbeth is one of my favourite things to do in Birmingham at night.

A few drinks and games of ping pong with your mates. Could you ask for much more?

This fun and exciting multi-use activity bar has everything you need for a great night out, including six Olympic grade tennis tables and wood-fired pizzas which – from experience – are delicious!

Not only will you be playing competitive games of table tennis while sipping on a tasty cocktail, but you’ll also be dancing to some amazing tunes provided by the huge sound system which makes you feel like you’re in a club.

(Except you’re less sweaty and playing table tennis rather than moshing!)

If you’re looking for one of Brum’s most fun nights out then DropShot is definitely your best bet!

9. Botanical Gardens

If you’re on the hunt for a more laid-back night out then why not head to Birmingham’s beautiful Botanical Gardens, one of the more slightly different things to do in Birmingham at night?

Located near the city centre in Edgbaston, you can enjoy night-time light displays and an open-air cinema here in the summer months!

The bandstand hosts plenty of live music events, and the renowned Magical Lantern Festival takes place at night during winter.

Visitors can marvel at the beautiful and magnificent lanterns which light up the ponds, gardens and woodlands of the venue.

This is a great night-time activity for all the family, and will leave you wanting to return every year!

10. Flight Club

Birmingham’s Flight Club is a fairground-themed bar in the centre of the city, which provides visitors with cocktails, pizza and thirteen darts oches which combine to make a fantastic night out.

The interior of the Flight Club is so impressive that you’ll never want to leave.

It’s safe to say you’ll end up recommending this venue to all your friends!

And if you do end up visiting earlier during the day, you can take part in their Brunch Social which promises bottomless booze and pizza.

Flight Club is one of the best places to go for bottomless brunch in Birmingham, for sure.

With different levels of difficulty, Escape Hunt is easily one of the best things to do in Birmingham at night!

13. Bongo’s Bingo

Address: The Forum, 52-54 Dale End, Birmingham B4 7LS

Last but absolutely by no means least (in fact, this might just be my favourite recommendation on this list), we have Bongo’s Bingo.

If you’re wondering why it’s on this list of things to do in Birmingham at night that can only be because you’ve never been before!

These guys have taken the very same game that thousands of old people play up and down the country and have completely reinvented it into what I can only describe as carnage.

Expect to dance in a conga line, sing along to Frozen, have a mini rave, and potentially even win £1000!

Don’t worry if you can’t make it on a night out though as they’re now taking the term ‘Sunday Funday’ in Birmingham to new levels with a series of Sunday afternoon shows scheduled this year.

So now you literally have no excuse not to go and win that giant fluffy unicorn.

Good luck is all I can say!

I hope this list has provided you with some inspiration for places to go at night-time in Birmingham.

Many of these places are weather dependent and provide the best experiences during the summer.

But you can also make the most of the winter evenings by exploring Birmingham’s quirky bars, restaurants, clubs and theatres.

Whether it’s a family trip out, a hen party or a romantic evening for two, I hope you love these fun things to do in Birmingham at night.
