The Best Unusual Romantic Weekend Breaks in the UK [2024]

by

It’s safe to say that my happy place is glamping.

The fresh air, the beautiful countryside, the incredible architecture, the unique design, I love it all.

But by far the best part of glamping is to be able to switch off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and have the chance to wind down with a loved one.

If this also sounds like your cup of tea, then settle down and get ready to daydream about the best unusual romantic weekend breaks in the UK.

1. Loveland Farm in Devon

Located in the beautiful North of Devon, right by the coast, you’ll discover Loveland Farm, one of my favourite unusual romantic weekend breaks in the UK.

Loveland Farm is a remote glamping site filled with beautifully designed eco-domes, or “pods”.

We stayed in Popla Pod, an intimate, Scandinavian-inspired pod, that is by far the most romantic of the pods on offer.

Our pod came with a stunning, hand-made, four-poster bed (with the comfiest mattress ever), a table and bean bags, and a wood burner.

And cuddling by the fire is pretty much the textbook definition of romantic, right?

Each pod is elevated above the farm on a wooden platform, making you feel even more secluded. There is also separate kitchen and shower rooms with all the amenities you could possibly dream of.

Loveland Farm prides itself on its sustainability, and this eco-friendly ethos is infused into the site.

Green technologies are used throughout, from their recycled woodchip 110kw biomass system to their award-winning compost loos (which I can totally vouch for!).

As a family, they also grow most of their own vegetables, sell produce to their guests, and support many local farmers.

2. Will’s Tree House in the Cotswolds

Will’s Tree House is nothing short of a dream come true. From the outside, the building is exactly what you would envision as a child, dreaming of a treehouse in your back garden.

A truly breath-taking architecturally designed unique structure, floating on four sycamore and ash trees, it is designed to spark the imagination.

Three of the trees poke through the inside deck and one even grows through the kitchen!

Inside, however, the treehouse transforms into a modern holiday home, designed to host everything you could need and more.

From a king-size bed and 55” SMART TV to a fully fitted kitchen and a sleek bathroom, Will’s Tree House was certainly made for those who don’t want to skimp out on any luxuries!

Whether you’re snuggling up on the sofa or the bed, it’s hard not to feel loved up in this treehouse.

If that wasn’t romantic enough, why not sit back and relax in the outdoor hot tub?

An absolute dream come true on a cold winter night, the bubbling hot tub will make your stay that tad more special!

There’s even a hidden outdoor shower to wash in afterwards.

And that’s not to forget the charcoal pizza oven and hanging chairs – sounds like the perfect evening to me.

3. Shepherd’s Hut in the Lake District

I would have to say that this is the most romantic pick on this list! Rustic, cosy and intimate, this shepherd’s hut is practically romance in a bottle.

There’s a stupidly comfy double bed which is heaven to wrap up in. And venture under the bed and you’ll discover baskets full to the brim with more blankets and cushions. Perfect for those who love to be super snuggly!

From playing cards and Top Trumps to Who Am I and general knowledge quiz games, there are enough games to keep you entertained for hours.

And if the games won’t entertain you, the hut also comes with plenty of charging points and free Wi-Fi, perfect for cosy movie nights in.

While I’d advise steering clear of the Wi-Fi for a real off-grid experience, sometimes you just want a cute, romantic movie night.

Perhaps one of the loveliest touches of this shepherd’s hut was how lovingly stocked the kitchen was.

We’re talking everything from wholemeal muffins and real butter to a fruit bowl brimming with bananas, apples and oranges.

And that’s not to forget the free bottle of wine in the fridge ready for your arrival. Such a special touch.

4. Stargazer’s Wagon in Herefordshire

This is one of my favourite unusual romantic weekend breaks in the UK. The rustic and chic Stargazer’s Wagon is the ideal getaway for couples who love the outdoors. N

ot only are there so many amazing things to do in Herefordshire, but this wagon really takes an off-grid romantic getaway to the next level

. The 27-foot long wagon has a pretty cool history… It was originally part of a ghost train in Germany in the 1940s, before it was transported over from Sweden and renovated to what you see today.

Inside you will discover a two-seater leather sofa, a table and chairs, and a bespoke kitchen with a four burner gas hob.

With fairy lights strung everywhere, a radio to listen to, and a log burner to cosy up to, the Stargazer’s Wagon goes hard on romance. And the double bed is just as cosy too!

The owners provide plenty of cushions and throws for extra comfort, as well as bathrobes, towels and hot water bottles.

However, the highlight of the wagon is, of course, the outdoor, wood-fired hot tub.

There’s nothing more special than spending a good hour or two soaking in the tub, watching the sunset and the night draw in. The wagon is designed for stargazing after all.

Preheated for when you get back from a long walk or grabbing pub grub, the tub stays hot for hours.

A welcome tub will cost you £20 but you can also buy wood there or bring your own wood if you fancy more than one go in the hot tub.

Can you tell why it’s one of my favourite places to go glamping in Herefordshire yet?

5. Pod Hollow in Suffolk

This one is for the LoTR obsessed couples among you!

Nestled in the side of a grassy knoll in a private Suffolk woodland, this hobbit hole brings the magic of Middle-Earth to life.

From the heavy rounded door to the iconic ‘No admittance except on party business’ sign, there is no doubt that this hobbit hole is Tolkien-inspired through and through.

Pod Hollow is separated from the rest of West Stow Pods with its own path leading up to the holiday home and a gate into the private enclosed area.

There’s a really nice outside area in front of the hobbit hole, with a table and chairs, a bench and a BBQ.

Just imagine curling up on the bench with a copy of The Hobbit, listening to the birds sing. Bloody heavenly!

Stepping into this hobbit hole is like stepping straight into a storybook. A magical romantic fairytale. It feels too good to be true!

There’s a large living area with a cosy feature fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, and two double bedrooms.

The bedrooms are cosy and intimate, made with romantic evenings in mind.

6. Harvest Moon Holidays in East Lothian

Beach lovers rejoice! Based in Lochhouses Farm, an arable farm with rolling fields of barley and wheat, Harvest Moon Holidays offers both safari tent and treehouse accommodation.

It’s home to a magnificent private beach, woodland, lochs and wetland. So no matter whether you want to be active or want to relax, there’s something for everyone here.

There are plenty of walks and cycle routes, but you can also just lay back in a hammock and take in the fresh ocean air.

With no electricity or Wi-Fi, staying in a safari tent is a real romantic off-grid experience. The tents are super spacious boasting two double beds, a kitchen, dining area, living area, and en-suite.

But the best thing about staying here is that you are only a ten-second walk away from your own private beach.

Being able to just wake up and roll onto the sand is so convenient. And the sunsets are pretty spectacular too!

However, Harvest Moon Holidays isn’t only a great place to stay. It’s also the perfect place to tie the knot!

The team host beautiful weddings right on the beach, with a large marquee for the reception.

Therefore, you’ll be unsurprised to hear that romance is infused into every little nook and cranny of the glamping site.

7. The Secret Garden in South Wales

Last but by no means least we have the Secret Garden pods in South Wales.

Magical by name and by nature, these pods will transport you far away from home, even though they’re located in little old Wales!

The Secret Garden is a contemporary little glamping site located just a stone’s throw from the beach.

Housed inside a hedged garden, you will discover six individual double rooms, each with its own private entrance and patio area.

The hedges and walkways that separate the rooms make the pods feel ever so secluded and private. Even though you are physically close to other pods, you feel fully immersed in nature. This makes for the most romantic stay.

When the sun’s out (it’s Wales, don’t expect too much!), you can enjoy a few drinks on your private patio.

The inside of the pods are just as gorgeous too. Boasting a minimalist colour scheme of grey and teal, these pods prove that you don’t need to go the extra mile to look good. Simplicity is key, folks!

From the thick and comfy pillows to a mattress you can just melt into, they’ve certainly prioritised a good night’s sleep.

Believe me, a night in the Secret Garden will leave you feeling totally refreshed and rejuvenated.
