Vegan Restaurants Dubrovnik: 11 Best Vegan Food Spots [2024]

by

If you’re also vegan and you love to travel as much as I do, you’ll understand both the joy and struggle of travelling as a vegan.

The joy, when you find an amazing vegan foodie spot…

And the struggle when the only thing you can order on the menu is a measly salad.

Before visiting Croatia, my expectations for finding good vegan food were pretty low, especially as the country loves its seafood.

And admittedly, while I did have to order salad and fries at a couple of restaurants, I was wildly surprised by how much good vegan food I got to eat during my 4 days in Dubrovnik.

We’re talking everything from seitan kebabs and vegan mac and cheese gnocchi to falafel wraps and homemade ćevapčići.

So without further ado, here are the 11 best vegan restaurants in Dubrovnik that you need to try!

1. Urban & Veggie

Address: Obala Stjepana Radića 13, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 95 326 2568

Urban & Veggie undeniably wins the award for one of the best vegan restaurants in Dubrovnik.

It’s one of only two places where the menu is exclusively vegan so it firmly deserves its #1 spot on this list.

Their mission is simple: to offer healthy, yet exciting, seasonal whole food dishes to both the visitors and locals of Dubrovnik.

It’s no coincidence that the restaurant is located in the historic port of Gruž, a few metres away from the city’s main food market that offers fresh produce from local small farms.

For starters, enjoy delights like eggplant tartar and tabbouleh, before moving on to one of their delicious mains.

Some main menu highlights are the vegan mac and cheese gnocchi, plantstrong pizza, and marinated fried seitan.

Their tofucaccia is one of my favourite dishes as well as the tofu power bowl.

(Can you tell I love tofu?!)

Follow one of these up with a lemon tart, chocolate mousse or a traditional Dubrovnik rozata cake, and you’re onto a winner!

This is quality vegan food if I’ve ever seen it.

2. Nishta

Address: Prijeko bb, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 20 322 088

Nishta is my other favourite vegan restaurant in Dubrovnik.

Located in the heart of the historic old town, they serve gourmet vegan and raw dishes freshly prepared from the best ingredients.

When they first opened their doors, most restaurants believed that meat and fish should be the focus of each meal.

As such, they named their restaurant ‘Nishta’ (meaning ‘nothing’) as a humourous nod to the fact that these restaurants thought that no food existed that wasn’t meat.

Their most popular dish is their falafel wrap, made using their house recipe since 2007.

The falafel is served wrapped in homemade naan bread with salad and hummus, and it’s the stuff of dreams!

Another menu highlight is their homemade ćevapčići, the national dish of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It’s typically a grilled dish of minced meat but theirs comprises sweet potatoes pan-fried with onions and ajvar (traditional eggplant and bell pepper sauce).

Other menu highlights are the zucchini lasagne, curry platter, and tofu wok rice noodles.

Top tip: don’t leave without purchasing their cookbook if you want to take a slice of Dubrovnik home with you!

3. Peppers Eatery

Address: Lapadska obala 20, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 20 487 578

Peppers Eatery is all about having a great meal in good company and it certainly delivers on the ‘great meal’ front.

Taking inspiration from all over the world, their global menu features mouth-watering dishes, some of which are vegan!

Their vegan chicken tacos are a real crowd-pleaser.

They comprise fresh guacamole, pickled red onions, vegan chipotle mayo, chopped salad, fresh lime, and charred corn.

What’s not to love?!

Their Beyond Meat burger is also a fan favourite.

It’s the plant-based burger of dreams, served with house fries, vegan cheddar, vegan garlic mayo and a market salad, sprinkled with toasted seeds and nuts.

Finish things up with a sorbet or their decadent vegan chocolate lava cake and you have yourself the best plant-based meal going

The restaurant also enjoys a lovely setting on the harbour side and has a gorgeous courtyard where you can enjoy your plant-based grub in style.

4. Bon Appetit Bistro

Address: Obala Stjepana Radića 31, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 95 915 1770

Bon Appetit Bistro takes pride in providing healthy food catered to every diner.

So, of course, they have vegan options available at every meal!

For breakfast, enjoy their vegan breakfast, comprising scrambled tofu, toast, avocado, turmeric and chia seeds.

It also comes with complimentary orange juice, with and coffee (with vegan milk alternatives available!).

As for lunch, their vegan sandwich with tofu, grilled veggies and French fries is an instant winner.

However, my favourite menu item of theirs would have to be the vegan plate with seitan or tofu steak, avocado, zucchini, mushrooms, corn, sesame seeds, chia seeds, and salad.

Historically, they’ve also served other vegan food, such as kebabs and burgers, so there may be even more vegan items when you visit!

5. GreenGarden Burger Bar

Address: Lapadska obala 22, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 95 551 7260

GreenGarden Burger Bar is green by name and green by nature.

This beautiful burger bar is located in a traditional 19th-century garden so if you love burgers and gorgeous natural environments, you’ll be in your element here.

Their plant-based Just Eat No Meet burger comes with homemade vegan mayonnaise, caramelized onion, lettuce, tomatoes, vegan cheese, mushrooms and fries.

Admittedly, it’s their only vegan option on the menu but when your surroundings are that beautiful and the burgers that delicious, you won’t have any complaints.

And to top it all off, the bar enjoys views of Gruž bay.

6. Bonto Korean & Japanese Restaurant

Address: Masarykov put 3C, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 20 772 242

Bonto Korean & Japanese Restaurant is one of the best vegan restaurants in Dubrovnik because it has a whole dedicated vegetarian menu.

And luckily for us vegans, many of those dishes are vegan or can be made vegan on request.

As a vegan at Bonto, you can expect to eat anything from veggie poke with tofu and spring rolls to bibimbap and yaki soba.

All their portions are generous and the food is delicious so you’re in for a good experience no matter what you order.

If Asian food is your cup of tea, you’re not going to want to miss out on this one.

7. Chihuahua Cantina Mexicana

Address: Šetalište kralja Zvonimira 2b, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 99 685 2380

Chihuahua Cantina Mexicana is easily one of my favourite vegan restaurants in Dubrovnik.

This colourful restaurant is known for its great vibe, fantastic live music, and even better food.

And luckily for you, even us vegans can join in on the fun!

From nachos with vegan chilli to generously stuffed tacos to vegan brownies for dessert, there are a handful of options to choose from.

However, if the vegan options don’t take your fancy, the restaurant is also more than happy to veganise their veggie dishes so don’t be scared to ask!

Top tip: don’t leave without trying the vegan bombers or the yuca fritters – they’re said to be the stuff of dreams.

8. Fast Food Republic

Address: Široka ul. 4, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 99 684 8640

If you want a quick fast food fix with a vegan twist, then head to the appropriately-named Fast Food Republic.

While a burger joint may not seem like the obvious choice to find vegan food, Fast Food Republic really delivers on this front.

Their popular vegan burger comprises a chickpea patty, tofu cheese, lettuce, tomato and olive tapenade, and is served with a healthy portion of skin-on fries.

Because what vegan can say no to fries, right?!

They also have a delicious falafel salad and a vegetable tortilla if you fancy something a little lighter.

The former comes with falafel, corn, rocket, tomato, black olives, onion, and lemon dressing, while the latter comprises marinated vegetables, corn, rocket, tomato, and ketchup.

Fast Food Republic may not be brimming with vegan options but the ones they do have are pretty great.

9. Incredible India

curry-rice-and-naan-bread-at-incredible-india-restaurant

Address: Croatia, Ul. Između Polača 11, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 20 312 743

Incredible India serves some incredible Indian food (the clue is in the name), and luckily, a lot of that is vegan.

Sadly, none of the items on their menu are marked as vegan.

But if you ask, they’re more than happy to explain to you what you can order as they can cook many of their dishes without butter or cream.

Plenty of the sides, such as their samosa, pakora and poppadoms, are vegan, as well as mains like their vegetable biriyani, aloo gobi, and chana masala.

Top tip: ask if they can make your naan or garlic naan vegan.

Because what is an Indian without some naan, after all?!

10. Dubravka 1836 Restaurant & Cafe

dubravka-1836-restaurant-and-cafe-on-sunny-day

Address: Brsalje ul. 1, 20000, Dubrovnik

Phone number: +385 20 426 319

Dubravka 1836 Restaurant & Cafe has one of the best views of any restaurant in Dubrovnik and luckily for you, it also serves some vegan food, too.

Located directly by the west entrance to the Old City, the restaurant enjoys stunning views of the fortresses Lovrijenac, Bokar and Minčeta.

For mains, you can enjoy a truly delicious marinara pizza topped with San Marzano tomato sauce, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, parsley, and fresh basil.

Trust me when I say it was unbelievably delicious.

There’s also spaghetti with tomato sauce and a vegetarian plate comprising green asparagus, roasted vegetables and roasted mushrooms.

While their vegan options are limited, they more than make up for it with some incredible views and even better food!)

Your Instagram won’t struggle for new content, that’s for sure.

11. Hotel Croatia Cavtat

Address: Frankopanska ul., 20210, Cavtat, Croatia•

Phone number: +385 20 300 300

Although not one of the most central hotels in Dubrovnik, the hotel I stayed in during my time in the city served some incredible vegan food.

Situated in Cavtat, a beautiful seaside resort around 20 km south of Dubrovnik, Hotel Croatia is a luxury five-star beach, spa, and conference resort with a whopping five restaurants.

I was pleased to find that both restaurants had some amazing vegan options for me to tuck into.

The main restaurant, Spinaker, is perched on a platform above the beach and serves a mean Mediterranean vegan tortilla.

The next popular restaurant is Steakhouse which has the ambience of a classic Wild West eatery.

If you don’t want to see steak being cooked, this may not be your best bet.

However, the restaurant does surprisingly have two vegan options.

The first is a vegan wrap and the second is a leek and mushroom risotto.

There are then a further three restaurants, each serving vegan options, including Sirocco Bar where you can rehydrate on fresh juices and smoothies.

If you’re looking to escape the madness of Dubrovnik in favour of a quieter coastal town, Cavtat is well worth the day trip!

So there you have it: the 11 best vegan restaurants in Dubrovnik.

Hopefully, you’ll get to eat some delicious food while you’re in the city – and if you visit some of these restaurants, I’m sure that’ll be the case!

P.s. don’t forget to try the city’s traditional sugared almonds.

You’ll thank me later, I promise!
