So much so that there are countless options for you to choose from!

1. Seeds for the Soul

First up, we have one of the best-known vegan restaurants in Edinburgh, Seeds for the Soul.

Serving breakfast til 1 pm, main dishes from noon, and coffee and cake all day, this spot is an absolute go-to for any vegans out there.

From meat-free sausages and indulgent pancakes to colourful soul bowls and tasty wraps, Seeds for the Soul cover all bases – and it’s all completely vegan!

The owners are on a mission to prove that vegan food is more than just ‘grass’.

Plus, they put a real emphasis on using organic ingredients and eco-friendly packaging.

2. Black Rabbit

Black Rabbit describes itself as ‘Edinburgh’s original alternative vegan deli and coffee shop’ and they’ve certainly made their mark on the city.

Offering up more than just ‘rabbit food’, Black Rabbit make a range of breakfast rolls, delicious sandwiches, sweet and savoury pastries, and cakes all in-house.

A special shoutout goes to their cruffins, a croissant in the shape of a muffin, which comes filled with a whole host of deliciously sweet fillings.

Honestly, they’re incredible!

And to top it all off, they run on 100% green electricity, use biodegradable packaging, and offer a 10% discount if you bring your own flask or container for takeaway.

3. Holy Cow

Holy Cow is a fully vegan café with a cult following and two gorgeous locations in Edinburgh.

The original can be found just a stone’s throw away from St. Andrews Bus Station and the new St. James Shopping Centre.

But its cosy size means it’s tough to get a table at busy times.

Their newer, bigger venue Holy Cow Lounge can be found in Fountainbridge, with plenty of seating to enjoy their famous mouth-watering vegan burgers!

The Oyster Mushroom Steak Burger and Carrot Lox Sandwich are staples on the main menu.

However, they also serve breakfast dishes and afternoon tea for those who want something a little different.

4. Sora Lella

Like the sound of a fully vegan Italian?

Then look no further than Sora Lella!

More than worth the hype, this charming wee restaurant serves up huge portions of simple Italian dishes that really hit the spot.

From classic pasta dishes like carbonara and lasagna to ‘meat feast’ and cream base pizzas, you’d never be able to tell it’s all made without a hint of meat or dairy!

Plus, they have a cheesecake special with a new flavour each day (if you have room, that is!).

5. The Auld Hoose

The Auld Hoose is nothing short of legendary on the vegan food scene.

Home of the largest nachos in Edinburgh (or maybe even the world? Seriously, they’re gigantic), this spot is perfect for those with a healthy appetite.

The Auld Hoose do pub-style food really well, with great vegan options including hot dogs, burritos, and hot sandwiches on the menu, too.

They also have a jukebox playing what might be the best selection of metal and punk music in the city.

A surprisingly good combination with a plate of nachos…

6. Paradise Palms

With an award-winning vegetarian menu and plenty of vegan options, Paradise Palms is a tiki-themed bar, diner, record shop, and stage.

Serving American-style food with a vibrant twist, choose from burgers, dirty fries, mac and cheese, and a whole host of sides.

Whatever you go for, you won’t be disappointed.

And if you happen to order takeaway, your food will arrive with quirky postcards, a sticker, and even a piece of poetry!

7. Harmonium

From the same people who brought the likes of Stereo, Mono, and The Flying Duck in Glasgow, Harmonium is one of the most well-established vegan restaurants in Edinburgh.

Comfort food at its best, you’ll find 100% vegan classics like burgers, pizzas, loaded mac and cheese, and cauliflower steaks on this delicious menu.

With easily some of the best vibes amongst the vegan restaurants in Edinburgh, Harmonium becomes a pretty buzzy bar in the evening.

8. Chapter One Coffee Shop

Chapter One made the decision back in 2019 to become fully vegan, and they haven’t looked back since!

Taking pride in their ethically sourced coffee beans from the best suppliers in Scotland, Chapter One uses oat milk as default.

However, they also offer soya, coconut, and almond milk if you prefer.

Or if coffee isn’t your thing, they work with a local artisan chocolatier to provide hand made organise chocolate for mochas and hot chocolates too!

Offering a great range of fresh vegan sandwiches, pastries, and bakes, there’s no better way to start off your day than at Chapter One.

9. Hummus

For Mediterranean food lovers, Hummus is the place to go to enjoy a spread of meat-free meze.

The menu is completely vegetarian with clearly-marked vegan options including hummus (an obvious choice), moussaka, tabbouleh, falafel wraps, and a selection of desserts.

Lebanese food has never tasted so good and guilt-free!

It’s an intimate, cosy setting, but if you don’t manage to grab a table, you can always order for takeaway, too.

10. Novapizza Vegan Kitchen

Another spot that started out veggie and recently turned fully vegan is Novapizza, a gorgeous Italian gem with a seasonal menu.

Using authentic recipes and local produce as much as possible, Novapizza offers vegan interpretations of all the Italian classics, right down to their signature vegan tiramisu for dessert.

Proudly run by a Roman family, this is an unbelievably cosy and welcoming spot with fantastic service.

Bellissimo!

11. Hendersons

Originally opening in 1962 in Edinburgh’s New Town, Hendersons was previously the longest-running vegetarian restaurant in the country until it closed during the pandemic.

But, in the greatest comeback in Edinburgh’s vegan history, Hendersons has recently opened a new restaurant in Bruntsfield with a trendy new look but the same favourite dishes.

Beautifully presented comfort food, this fully veggie and vegan menu is at the essence of the restaurant’s new slogan ‘Eat Better, Live Better’.

They’re also a dog-friendly restaurant if you’re travelling with a four-legged friend!

12. Considerit

Ever had a doughnut stuffed full of ice cream?

Well, you can get this at Considerit, along with a whole lot more!

A little shop full of plant-based indulgence, they have fresh doughnuts, chocolates, and ice cream, handcrafted each day and completely vegan.

Flavours change on a regular basis and they often do seasonal specials for Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and Easter.

Just brace yourself to wait in a bit of a queue…

Turns out the rest of Edinburgh wants to get their hands on these sweet treats, too! 

13. Green Bite Cafe & Bakery

Green Bite Cafe & Bakery is perfect if you’re on the hunt for a light, vegan lunch.

Dishing up artisan pies, freshly filled rolls and sandwiches, seasonal soups, and crunchy salads, Green Bite has something for everyone.

There are only a few small tables at this quaint little café, but don’t worry because most of the menu is available for takeaway, too!

So why not grab yourself a bag of goodies, take it to the nearest park or bench, and enjoy your lunch al fresco?!

14. Sen Viet Vegan

Already a well-known London establishment, Sen Viet Vegan has opened its doors in Edinburgh to bring a broad menu of vegan Vietnamese food to the city.

Fully vegan since early 2022, Sen Viet Vegan serve sharing starter platters, classic main dishes, and delicious desserts including mango spring rolls and fried ice cream.

The team are passionate about creating healthy and authentic Vietnamese cuisine and helping spread the cultural influence of vegan eating.

And when it tastes this good, it’s easy to see why!

If you’re craving classic British fish and chips (but, you know, without the fish) then #FISH have got you covered.

Though it’s not an exclusively vegan establishment, they have brilliant vegan chippy alternatives.

From vegan fish and chips to doner wraps to vegan sauce for dipping, they’ve got it!

They even have a selection of vegan desserts like caramel cake and chocolate brownies, ready for that sweet tooth that might follow the main event.

Takeaway only, a chippy is best enjoyed in the comfort of your accommodation, or in a car with a nice view of Arthur’s Seat!

16. Bross Bagels

Bross Bagels can be found in three different locations across Edinburgh (Bruntsfield, Stockbridge and Portobello) meaning no matter where you are, there’s a tasty vegan bagel waiting nearby.

The menu is varied but with plenty of vegan options, including The Hungry Vegan with smashed avo, tomatoes and chilli oil, and Buffanono with buffalo cauliflower, jack cheese, and slaw.

The bagels are a little more on the pricey side.

But for the quality and quantity of the fillings, you’re getting pretty good value for money.

17. Hula

Originally established as the first juice bar in Edinburgh, Hula is also a healthy eatery with a great selection of vegan options!

All juice, smoothie, and milkshake options are vegan (or can be made vegan).

And they serve lots of vegan food too like smoothie bowls, a cooked breakfast, avocado toast, and poke bowls.

If one thing is guaranteed, it’s that every plate and bowl in Hula’s fun little café will be bursting with colour and nourishing ingredients.

18. The Sly Fox

What started out as a street food market stall, The Sly Fox has now become a permanent addition to Edinburgh’s vegan food scene.

Their varied menu has generous portions of some of the best vegan Czech-influenced food you’re likely to find.

We’re talking potato rosti with sauerkraut, goulash, and dirty falafels, to name a few.

They also have a barista bar, too, pouring fresh coffee from open til close each day!

19. David Bann

It’s not often that you come across a high-end restaurant catering specifically to vegetarians and vegans, so David Bann is a bit of a gem.

An innovative and fun menu with influences from across the globe, almost every dish is vegan or can be made vegan on request.

And best of all, for a fine-dining restaurant, the atmosphere is far from stuffy and the staff couldn’t be nicer.

It’s fairly reasonably priced too – you can order a three-course meal for less than £25 per person!

I think you can now see why this is one of my favourite vegan restaurants in Edinburgh.

20. Soul Vegan

Soul Vegan is a fully vegan Malaysian restaurant with a specialist menu.

The décor is funky, with lush greenery on the walls and neon signs welcoming you to ‘vegan paradise’.

From Katsu curry and Laksa noodles to Pak Choi and deep-fried tofu, each dish is bursting with flavour and beautifully presented.

One of the best vegan restaurants in Edinburgh, Soul Vegan truly is a foodie ‘paradise’ indeed.

If you’re up for trying something brand new, they’ve been known to offer 30% off dishes during test running periods.

This means you could help curate their next menu!

21. FacePlant Foods

One of Scotland’s first pop-up, plant-based kitchens, FacePlant Foods now has its own turf in Leith.

Specialising in alternative meats including bacon, pastrami, and chicken, as well as vegan ‘Cheeze’, FacePlant serve up some mean sandwiches, toasties, and other weekly specials.

The Mac ‘n’ Cheeze sandwich and Haggis Melt deserve a special mention.

They’re two of the filthiest and most delicious vegan toasties you might ever have!

And if you really love FacePlant’s own-made meat alternatives like bacon, you can buy slices to take away and create your own recipes back home.

Time to dust off that toastie machine?

22. Santosa Wellness Café

Located within the wellness centre of the same name, Santosa Wellness Café is an all-vegan-veggie café with a real focus on community.

Dishes with fresh, flavourful food are prepared through home-style cooking and served in a relaxing, airy space that welcomes anyone in.

They’re passionate about using the earth’s resources, not only in ingredients but even in the café furnishings.

Yep, all tables, chairs and displays are preloved or upcycled!

Over the two floors at Santosa, there’s also a studio, therapy centre, and small shop, and the venue space hosts music events, art exhibitions, performances, and fundraisers.

Come along for the café but stay for the community!

23. Kalpna

Having been open for over 40 years, Kalpna prides itself on being one of Edinburgh’s most prestigious institutions and a symbol of traditional Indian and vegetarian Food.

And the menu certainly lives up to its reputation!

Try the Dum Aloo Kashmiri, Kalpna’s signature dish, or choose from a range of traditional homemade classics like paneer or kofta.

You can also choose their set meal for just £18 per person, with all-you-can-eat dishes to be shared with your table, if you want a little taste of everything.
